Great timing! This week, I’ve been writing about my little island herb garden as an extension of the kitchen…and now with your suggestion/prompt I’ll focus on each plant!

I started my little orchard from apple scions grafted onto rootstock and an espaliered pear tree with three varieties about seven or eight years ago. They are now all producing fruit for baking, cooking and sharing and my hope is that they will continue to provide for future generations long after I’m gone.

What a wonderful set of memories. I'm so happy for your plucky little bay tree thriving in its new permanent home.

I'm afraid the only garden-related thing I've inherited is my mother's black thumb. (Although we now live in a sort of challenging climate, so I at least have that excuse these days).

But I do have very fond memories of a gnarled little peach tree in the backyard of my first childhood home. It only made a handful of peaches each year, but each one was a little jewel; we moved away when I was only 5 years old, but I still remember the perfect peaches from that tree. My mother tried planting two more peach trees at our next house, but neither of them survived.
