My Mom always planned to make each of us girls a cookbook of favorite recipes. Well, she never got around to it, but I have the one that is mostly complete. It's such a treasure, although so many of the recipes I'll never make! Great post.
I'm sorry your mom didn't have a chance to finish that book for you, but glad you have a mostly-complete version. Yes indeed, sometimes those "treasures" are more for memory and sense of connection, not always things we want to cook. I'm a big fan of keeping them all.
Oh my goodness, yes, yes, yes! I have a vintage copy of the Farm Journal Country Cookbook that is a mass of cooking stains, and I couldn't be happier with this purchase! Feels like home..
Hmmm.....sounds like another one I should try to hunt down. I really love the time-capsule nature of older cookbooks, what they tell us about cooking across different eras.

Cynthia, You've inspired me to write about her little cookbook. Thanks!

The original is from 1959 and you won't regret the purchase. (Got mine on eBay)
Old cookbooks are the best! Looking forward to July 10, too.
Thanks, Kate. It's going to be a fun conversation, see you then.
Phenomenal website! I’m with you on splatter, marginalia, and even the “found” objects in old cookbooks I’m writing on in my next newsletter!
I love those "found" objects, too! I look forward to seeing what you'll be writing about. That is a fun bonus when picking up used cookbooks.
I love everything by about this post and can’t wait to listen as you and Barbara kibitz on the 10th!
Thanks, Lori! See you then.
I totally agree. I have family and acquired treasures that definitely bestow the love.
